Talk to two people on one call. S

Don't worry. Three-way calling lets you talk to two people at once on one home phone call when your line supports it.

Quick answer

Start a normal call, press flash or recall, dial the second person, then press flash again to join everyone.

More detail

Three-way calling uses call waiting and flash features on your phone.

Not all phones support it. Check your phone manual.

Hang up carefully so you do not drop both callers unexpectedly.

What you'll need

  • Home phone with flash or recall button
  • Two numbers to connect
  • Dial tone and working line

Before you begin

  • Tell both parties you are joining them on one call.
  • Practice with patient friends before an important call.

Start a three-way call

  1. Make or answer a first call as normal.

  2. Press flash or recall to put the first caller on hold.

  3. Dial the second number and wait for them to answer.

  4. Press flash or recall again to connect all parties.

  5. Speak normally. Everyone should hear each other.

  6. Hang up when finished. Other parties may disconnect depending on your phone.

What success looks like

You hear both other people at the same time and they can hear you and each other.

Common mistakes

  • Phones without flash cannot start three-way calls.
  • Hanging up first and cutting off both callers unintentionally.
  • Starting second call before first is on hold.
