Restore phone service after a power cut when you use your own broadband. A

Don't worry. With your own broadband, most phone problems are adapter cables, internet outages, or a router setting called SIP ALG.

Quick answer

After power returns, your adapter and router need mains power before calls work again.

More detail

After power returns, your adapter and router need mains power before calls work again.

Steps for your own broadband

  1. Confirm electricity is back at the adapter and router.

  2. Switch adapter power off 30 seconds, then on.

  3. Wait at least three minutes.

  4. Test a call. Use a charged mobile for 999 during any cut. See Emergency calls during a power cut

What success looks like

Your home broadband is online, adapter lights are ready, and you can make and receive calls on your home number.

Common mistakes

  • Plugging the phone into a wall socket instead of Phone1 on the adapter.
  • Expecting Simple Telecoms to fix your broadband when only the phone service is with us.
  • Leaving SIP ALG switched on in the broadband router.
